I was listening to the Jen Psaki briefing today, and in 5 minutes, 3 reporters asked why Biden wasn’t being “bipartisan” as he promised. She tried patiently to explain that Biden never promised to form a single party, he said he wanted to bring AMERICA together, not the parties per se. But still these both-siderism zombies kept on with the same BS questions.
The purpose of journalism is truth, not equal time to both sides. 2/3 of the public strongly supports the plan Biden is advancing. Psaki rightly pushed back saying (my paraphrase) “Why aren’t you asking the Republicans in the House and Senate why they aren’t supporting this bill that 2/3 of the public and a majority of grass roots Republicans support?”
This both-siderism must end. IMHO, the press failing to do their job these past 4 years is every big as big a threat to our democracy as Trump organizing an armed insurgency.
This both-siderism thing is uniquely a Beltway political pundit phenomenon. You never hear anybody asking:
Why isn’t ESPN showing more Chiefs highlights in their Super Bowl coverage?
or
How come the media never talks about the movies people decided not to see?
or
Where are all the stories about the cyclist who finished the Tour de France in 4th place?
or
Why doesn’t Bloomberg give equal time to all the stocks that had no gains last year?
Sound preposterous? Of course it does. But we hear this nonsense continuously from the political punditocracy.
