This really is outrageous, and it cannot possibly be blamed on McConnell’s obstruction. Biden and Schumer simply aren’t taking this seriously.
Here’s the reality. With all the voter suppression kicking in for 2022, only a complete idiot would assume we will control the Senate as of January 2023. That means Biden and Schumer have less than 19 months to fill the vacancies because if McConnell becomes Majority Leader, he won’t let a single nomination go to a vote. Not one.
There are currently 110 Federal judgeships currently vacant or announced to be vacant. And there are probably another 2 dozen that would be announced if the judges believed that Biden and Schumer would actually get off their asses and move this forward. Why is Biden wasting so much time negotiating with Republicans about an infrastructure bill that will never get a single Republican vote? The Judiciary is serious business. The main reason we are in the our current position, teetering on the edge of losing our democracy is because we have lost the judiciary over the past 20 years. And why? Because Republicans take it 1000 times more seriously than Democrats do, plain and simple.
We are now 5 months into the Biden Presidency with Schumer controlling the Senate agenda, and there have been a total of three judges confirmed. THREE!!!! How is that even possible? When McConnell ran the Senate, he was able to ram these things through back-to-back-to-back.
And it isn’t just Schumer. Biden has only nominated 18 people!? How is it possible that the Biden transition team didn’t have a nominee for every single open seat ready to go on January 20?
Sometimes we are our own worst enemy.
