"Get up to 2% of GDP"? That's the wrong question.

As Usual, Trump is creating the narrative that the media dutifully parrots day in and day out.  Trump is bitching about the NATO countries that are a little bit below the rule that they should be spending 2% of their GDP on defense.  What the media doesn’t ever say is that it is Putin driving this discussion.  And obviously Putin doesn’t want the countries to have stronger defenses.  Putin’s goal is to destabilize NATO, and Trump is doing exactly that for Putin.

But that is really not the most important point.  The most important question is WTF is the US doing spending almost 4% in a world that doesn’t have any military superpowers that require such a mass of hardware?

The question is:

WHY IS THE US SPENDING MORE THAN 2%?

2% would still give us the largest military budget in the world — by far.  We should be demanding that all NATO countries target 2%, INCLUDING the US.  In doing so, we can reduce our military spend by $300 BILLION per year.  What would $300 BILLION buy?

Three million 4-year full ride college scholarships every year Heath insurance for 40 million people, even using our absurdly wasteful for-profit insurance system Full funding for a half million professional orchestras, operas, theater companies, with money to spare to build new theater buildings and fund fellowships Repairs to every single dilapidated bridge in America, with $150 billion left to repair roads Research for disease cures Funding entrepreneurs for the industries of the future and so on …

Demand that the media start asking the right questions!!!
